IHS Girls Varsity Lacrosse Falls to Shadyside

In their second match-up of the season, IHS gave a sustained effort but was held to just 13 total shots on goal during the 50 minutes of play. Shadyside succeeded in 22 of 31 draws for a total of 31 shots on goal during the night. In the initial minutes of play, the teams traded goals and Indiana was within two points but by the end of the first half of play Indiana had scored 5 times to Shadyside’s 16; in the second half, Indiana was able to place another 4 shots in their opponents’ net, but Shadyside scored 7.

Ground balls for Indiana were claimed by Bailey Dills (2), Alyssa Rayko (2), Lydia Lewis (1), Carlie Glavach (1), Jordan Raible (1), and Avery Redd (1).

Scoring for IHS were Alyssa Rayko (3), Amelia Kuzneski (3), Taylor Marcozzi (1), Michaela Hays (1), and Bailey Dills (1).

Final score was 9:23.

In the JV game, Indiana started strong, ending the twenty minute half up one point 4:3. Scoring for IHS JV were Katie Conrad (1), Ashleigh Bowman (1), Allisyn Arotin (1), and Hannah Hays (1). Ground ball intensity characterized the game, as Indiana snagged a total of 29 GBs, with credit to: Avery Redd (2), Kira Cunningham (4), Katie Conrad (1), Ashleigh Bowman (2), Maggie Congelko (1), Bryn Beck (1), Allisyn Arotin (3), Amy Arotin (1), Mia Spadafora (2), Ella Spadafora (3) and Hannah Hays (4). Lydia Lewis and Allysin Arotin both forced turn-overs.

In the second half, Shadyside defense held IHS scoreless while offense added two more to their tally, finishing the game with Indiana down 4:5.

Indiana plays again Thursday at Greensburg-Salem.
